The bedroom is for rest, relaxation, intimacy, rejuvenation, and fun… the place where we can recreate ourselves. We have a few ideas of how to turn it into a relaxing getaway.
1. One of the biggest inhibitor of promoting relaxation in a bedroom is unnecessary clutter, and one of the biggest problem areas is in the wardrobe
closet. Remove items that are damaged or haven’t been worn in two years and have a yard sale or donate them to charity.
In general, the more stuff you have in the room, the smaller and more confining the room will appear.
Eliminate from the room all reminders that you have children; your bedroom is about you and your partner. Move those mementos to another special place in your home.
Our homes have become as crowded as our lives and often our bedrooms do double duty as home offices, but all experts definitely agree that you should get the office and computer out of the bedroom.
2. Make the bed. Your skin will be in contact with your linens for six to eight hours every night. Choose good quality and muted colors rather than bright colors for your bedding. You want the room to be relaxing and romantic. Good colors for a bedroom include dark maroon, beige, mauve, sage green and muted yellow. Fluffy bed pillows, comforters and decorative throw pillows will create a luring bed.
3. Decoration should be simple but in the same time it has to show your personality. Stick with colors, textures and images that are meaningful and relaxing to you.
4. Your focal point could be a large piece of decorative furniture or you could build your design around a beautiful wall art.
5. Cover the windows in heavy draperies of one solid color. The color of the draperies should complement the bedding, but not be of the same pattern as the bedding, therefore solid colored draperies work best.
6. Place candles around the room. This will ensure a relaxed setting and add to the luxurious feel of the room.
I hope these few tips help put you on the right track in creating your dream bedroom.
The desire to incorporate basic elements of nature into interior design is still very prevalent.
Being inspired by nature doesn’t mean that you have to choose neutral tones when it comes to decorating your home.
Get inspired by exotic birds or a tropical forest and add bright tones to highlight a sofa with these modern decorative pillows. Asian-inspired mango accent pieces such as mango wood vases are beautiful and will create a focus point in any corner of your room. Use tall vases to emphasize high ceilings.
Create a cozy corner with a small table that holds bottles of wine and hand painted wine glasses or martini glasses.
Add an exotic touch to your living room with a zebra print either in your decorative throws, pillows or area rugs.

Throws are the perfect thing to cozy up with when you are feeling a little chilly. Just wrap yourself in a 100% cotton throw or mohair throw and curl up with a good book, a favorite movie, cup of tea or a glass of wine.
Throws can also be used as a finishing touch to a room. Over a sofa or across the back of a chair it will make a great accent to your decor.
At homedecorbylulu.com we carry a variety of unique throws in different colors and textures.
The added bonus of decorating with throws is that you can change your throws with the seasons, choosing strong colors and textures for winter, and light bright ones for the warmer days of summer.
They make excellent gifts for any occasion and especially for the hard to buy person in your life.

After a long cold winter, the spring is an amazing time when everything comes to life. The first flowers of spring and the songs of the returning birds are welcome for the spirit. I love this season, is the season when I was born. My favorite flowers are tulips and freesias.
But nothing reminds me of spring like this beautiful hand blown and hand painted glass vase from the Fantezia Collection.
The Fantezia Collection is a line of mouth blown and hand decorated glass, produced in the European country of Romania. Each piece is created one at a time in several stages, therefore no two are alike. Not only is the creative process time consuming, it is also demanding. Each glass is a piece of art created by a worker best described as an artisan.
This unique collection contains a wide variety of pieces to meet your decorating and entertainment needs. It has been our most popular line over the years.
Like the chameleon, the colors of this line change and adapt to any home decor theme making this line very unique. This hand blown art glass rose bowl is a real beauty that would make a unique gift for your love ones. It could also be use as a tea light holder. This vase will hold dozens of blooms from your garden.

Both men and women desire a romantic, private setting for their special Valentine’s Day. According to the survey, nearly 40 percent of respondents rated “in front of the fireplace” as the most popular place to share their love for each other.
Warm up this cold February night by starting a fire and get comfy in front of the fireplace with your sweetheart on this soft, cozy and warm sheepskin area rug from New Zealand.
What better way to start the Valentine celebrations than with a bottle of champagne to make your night sparkle.
Lighting is an important factor. Darken the space to create an intimate feeling and then add candlelight. Chocolate or vanilla scented candles are one of my favorites.
I would say, surprise her by placing a beautiful red rose, the symbol of romance and passion, on her pillow early in the morning.
Along with the rose, attach a romantic note trying your best to express your love.
Continue your romantic day with an intimate dinner at her favorite restaurant, beginning with a champagne toast and finishing at home with a chocolate strawberry fondue surrounded in candles.
The night is not over; take your love for a nice walk on a beach, in the park or on a cozy boulevard.
To go that one step further, reserve a hotel room with an ocean view or a cabin in the mountains for a special night just for the two of you.
Another nice touch is to place rose petals in your valentine’s bath or on the bed.
Buy some scented candles and place them into unique and beautiful acrylic tealight or votive candleholders to add more romance to an already special evening.
One of the top original sensual gifts for Valentine’s Day is giving each other full body massages with scented massage oils.
So, those are a few ideas of how to spend a romantic day with your loved one. We hope you will have a fantastic Valentines Day.
Finishing touches are like the icing on a cake. Without accessories any living space is lifeless.
So, if you think that having a sofa, chairs and a coffee table you are done decorating, think twice… you are far from it. When you are ready to invest in decorating a room make sure that you have enough of a budget to add some home decor accessory pieces such as hand blown art glass, modern decorative pillows, cotton or mohair throws, area rugs or natural sheepskin, curtains, natural or artificial flowers and original unique wall art to add the finishing touches. Search for new ideas in home decor magazines. Bring out pieces that you already own and incorporate them into your display. Learn how to group decorative items that will contribute to the overall look of your room and add that personal touch.
A decorating trick I often use is to take a digital picture of the setting that you are trying to accomplish. The picture won’t lie. You can see for yourself if something jumps out at you. Quite often I take pictures of a group of items, and by looking at the picture I can more easily see when something is not quite right. That’s when sometimes you would remove or add another item until you find a harmonious grouping.
For example if you want to decorate your coffee table, start by displaying your favorite accessories in a variety of heights and shapes. Mix textures using glass, wicker, ceramic or iron. Display books in neat stacks. Take a picture of your coffee table and you will get an honest feel of what is working and what is not.
Don’t allow magazines and newspapers to take over your coffee table. Place them in a bowl or basket for a more organized look. Remove the candles that are at the end of their lives and don’t display mismatched ones. If you love fresh flowers don’t forget to replace them with new ones when their time comes. These are a few ideas of how to make your place more inviting. Now take these ideas and try to decorate a bookshelf, a unique vignette, or a bedside table.
