When I started collecting pewter figurines a few years ago, I recognized it as a sound investment. I like the fact that they are always sitting in their accustomed spot on the mantel, just waiting to be admired. Unfortunately, as with any collectibles, they seem to attract dust like a magnet. While dusting and cleaning aren’t my favorite parts of the day, they are chores that must be done in this case.
Bear in mind that washing the figurines should be your last resort. Stick to dusting them or blowing over them with a hair dryer to eliminate dust and debris. Fairy figurines have delicate butterfly wings attached, and it’s best to avoid handling these fragile parts wherever possible. Caring for your collectibles is simple, and it will make them that much more attractive to the eyes of your guests.
Whether you collect birdcages or buttons, sculpture or shells, pewter fairies or teacups, any collection you love deserves pride of place in your home. There’s power in numbers. Anything looks better as a collection. The different sizes, shapes and colors play off each other, and grouping a collection together gives it emphasis. Gather up your treasures around the house and mass them for a stunning display.
When I was just a little girl, I loved visiting my Aunt Janne’s house because she had all kinds of wonderful statues of fanciful creatures. Aunt Janne absolutely loved fantasy novels, and she collected all kinds of fantasy artwork and put it in her household. She had paintings of dragons, statues of fairies, and even silverware with little wizards etched into the handles! Aunt Janne also told the best stories about princesses, castles, and knights, and I loved it when I spent the night at her house.
Even though I’m an adult now and Aunt Janne is an old woman, I still love visiting her house. She doesn’t tuck me into bed anymore, but she still loves to tuck my children in and tell them a story when they visit. I’m glad to have an Aunt like her, even though she’s a little quirky, she’s ever been a positive force in my life!
