For many Christian denominations – most famously Roman Catholicism – votive candles play an important part in religious observances. The candles are often made available to worshipers upon entrance to a church or chapel. Once procured, the candles may be placed before icons or statues and then ritualistically lit during prayer.
These candles are sometimes used in the home as well, and votive candle holders make an ideal gift for a devout friend. Candle holders can endure through a period of years, gaining character from the wax of the many candles they stabilize. Who knows, maybe your friend will light a candle in your honor, thanking you for a thoughtful gift.
